Athlete of the Week for Monday, Feb. 19, 2024
Name: Autumn Fleary
School: McDonogh School
Year: Sophomore
Sport: Basketball
Position: Guard
About Autumn: Last year, it was her three-point play in the waning seconds of the A Conference championship game that gave McDonogh a 50-47 victory over St. Frances Academy. On Sunday at Stevenson University, the sophomore standout was the main reason why the Eagles were able to pull off a three-peat by topping the Panthers, 54-53.
Autumn, who totaled 17 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals in a 79-38 triumph over St. Mary’s in a semifinal, was even better in the 2024 title game with 27 points, eight boards, four assists and six steals while shooting 64 percent from the floor in the postseason.
Her penchant for shining the brightest in crunch time solidifies Autumn’s budding reputation as one of the premier guards in school history.
“Once again, Autumn saved her best for the biggest stage,” McDonogh coach Brad Rees said. “Even as a sophomore she was able to take her game to another level. She has that little bit of extra that she taps into when we need it most.”
Congratulations, Autumn!
