St. Paul's softball rallies past Bryn Mawr; AACS lax tops Catholic

St. Paul's School for Girls rallied for a key 5-4 victory over Bryn Mawr in a B Conference softball game.

The game was tied, 4-4, with the Gators batting in the bottom of the fifth when Kathe Hobbs knocked in the go-ahead run with a single.

Bryn Mawr opened up sthe coring in the first inning, when Madi Mirro clouted a two-run homer to stake the Mawrtians to a 2-0 advantage

She also pitched six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking none.

Bryn Mawr mashed two home runs, with Callie Chambers adding a dinger in the third inning.

In all, the Gators managed eight hits against Mirro with Emily Issing and Hobbs collecting multiple safeties.

Issing went 3-for-3 to lead the way while Hobbs led the Gators to victory in the circle, surrendering four runs on seven hits over seven innings with seven K's.

Mirro and Chambers each managed multiple hits for Bryn Mawr.

AACS lax tops Catholic

The Grollman twins had a banner say in Annapolis Area Christian School's 14-10 lacrosse victory over Catholic High.

Tracy Grollman led the Eagles' scoring parade with three goals and four assists while her sister, Taylor, recorded 16 saves and also had an assist.

Other AACS standouts were Lydia Wood (4 goals, 1 assist), Krissy Milburn (2 goals) and single-goal scorers McKenna Steinau, Maggie Stallings, Abby Boyer and Grace Parker.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the B Conference.

The Cubs fell to 8-3 and 5-3 in league play.

 

"We love that Tracy is a playmaker and doesn't always feel the need to take the ball to the goal on her own," AACS coach Deanna Thorpe said. "She's become a mature team player."
