Bryn Mawr’s squash program continues to roll along, vying to remain atop the league for the third time in as many years of its existence.

The Mawrtians have continued to impress this winter, shaking off an opening non-league 4-3 setback to SquashWise before reeling off five straight wins over league rivals Garrison Forest, St. Paul’s School for Girls, Roland Park Country School, Notre Dame Prep and St. Timothy’s and one over Episcopal (Va.) by a combined, 40-4, score.

BMS coach Kate Brendler, said that “losing only to a very tough co-ed team from SquashWise,” shows how well her team has performed this winter.

“Led by veteran seniors Brigid Brandon (Amherst College), Sabina Sitwat, and Campbell McCulloch, the varsity team has handled strong challenges from Garrison Forest, SPSG, NDP, and a very deep team from Roland Park Country School,” she said. “Brigid and her sister, junior Fionnoula Brandon, are very strong regular tournament players and have helped the on-court development of their teammates. Returning captain, Sabina Sitwat, brings four years of varsity wisdom and experience to the team. Freshmen Charlotte Wettlaufer and Maggie Schneider made their presence known during tryouts by beating several returning players.”

Brendler added that the challenge is on to see who will represent Bryn Mawr both in the IAAM tournament — Feb. 12-13, at the Coppermine Racquet & Fitness Club, Courts 1-6 — and at High School Nationals next month.

Coach Missy Wells said Garrison Forest has a very solid and deep team this year, with a large varsity squad and no junior Varsity.

“We have some very inspired and talented middle school players who we are nurturing their love and enthusiasm for squash,” she continued. “We have fewer out-of-town teams coming to play us at our home courts at Bare Hills, but look forward to hosting Lancaster Country Day toward the end of the season.”
