At the conclusion of this academic year, Terri Moeser will step back from her 21-years as Maryvale's Athletic Director and return to the classroom which will undoubtedly be a blessing for her students.

For her coaches at Maryvale and IAAM colleagues alike, her stature and experience have stood out for more than two decades.

Simply put, Moeser is among the best in the business and highly regarded by her peers.

“Terri embodies everything that the IAAM stands for — fair play, integrity and respect,” veteran Mercy athletic director Nick Gill said. “She’s been an integral part of the league and a trusted colleague. I have been fortunate enough to work with her the last three years on The Classic (the annual basketball game between the schools). I have a great deal of respect for her and for the outstanding athletic programs she has built at Maryvale. The league will miss her and I wish her all the best.”

The timing of the move, though, is perfect for Moeser.

"I started my career as a physical education teacher in the Catholic school system 34 years ago and I am excited to get back into the classroom full-time, Moeser said. “As a teacher, I get to know all the students, not just the athletes. This truly is a bittersweet moment, leaving a position after so long, but I cannot wait to spend more time with my family and leave campus before it gets dark! I love the Maryvale community and plan on finishing my career here."

When Moeser accepted the position, Maryvale’s plans to increase its IAAM sports footprint were put in very capable hands.

Under her leadership, the Lions have shown the ability to make their impact felt by claiming 31 varsity championships — 19 in the B Conference and 12 in the A Conference.

Moreover, Moeser earned back-to-back B Conference crowns while coaching the softball squad to titles in 2016-17 during a 13-year stint at the helm.

The 2008 IAAM Athletic Director of the Year said that she is proud of the success that her teams have had during her tenure “and the growth of the sports programs,” including the development of new programs and “retaining great coaches.”

What she didn’t mention was her efforts regarding the creation of a track surrounding a new turf field, both upgrades which have strongly aided the Lions’ running, field hockey, soccer and lacrosse squads.

Sue Thompson, the IAAM executive director, said that Moeser has had a major impact on the league in many different ways.

“Terri is the consummate professional and just one of a handful of folks who have been with the IAAM since its inception in 1999,” Thompson said. “Terri served as our League President from 2007-2009, and has served as a Sport Chair, Mentor for new Athletic Directors and has worked closely with the Middle School programs for over a decade.  When I need advice, a sounding board or help with something; my first call is usually to Terri Moeser. Reliable, logical, easy-going and a quick smile, Terri will be missed, there is no doubt about that.”

Maryvale president Malika DeLancey said that Moeser “has laid a solid foundation for the next athletic director to stand on. Maryvale athletics are in a tremendous place thanks to Terri Moeser. We are excited to see where the program will go from here, with Terri still on our team.”
