Emma finished 46 seconds ahead of runner-up Genevieve Cowan of St. Timothy’s to claim the individual title in the IAAM cross country championship meet on Wednesday at Shawan Downs in Cockeysville, shaving a full minute off her previous best time.

The talented Severn sophomore, who held a five-second lead over Cowan in the early stages of the 3.1-mile race, turned it on at the halfway mark and breezed over the finish line in 18:14.

“I just tried to keep pushing," she said. “I looked back on some of the turns and then pulled out and maintained (the pace). I just wanted to run my race.”
