Athlete Of The Week - Skylar Sensenbrenner

Athlete of the Week for Monday, May 6, 2024

Name:   Skylar Sensenbrenner

School:  Annapolis Area Christian School

Year:     Junior

Sport:   Lacrosse

Position:  Midfield

About Skylar: As astounding as Skylar’s performance was in last week’s 19-10 setback to St. Timothy’s in which the talented junior scored seven goals, had 10 draw controls, six ground balls and one caused turnover, it still can’t top what she did in a win over Catholic High. In that contest, Skylar practically willed the Eagles to victory by scoring 12 goals in the 14-12 verdict. In her next outing against Key School, Skylar pumped in 10 goals to give her 22 goals, 26 draw controls, 10 ground balls and five interceptions in those two games.

AACS coach Maggie Bickhart said that Skylar, whose twin, Brooke, is the team’s top defender, uses her smarts and stick skills to get the job done. That was especially true against undefeated St. Tim’s, which allowed only an average of four goals per game prior to confronting Skylar and the Eagles. Only two other teams, Catholic and St. Vincent Pallotti, had managed to score seven goals against St. Tim’s this spring.

All told, Skylar has contributed 71 goals, 73 draw controls and 55 ground balls against league opponents this season while helping the Eagles build a 6-1 C Conference record.

“She found a way to slip in there against a really tough defense,” Bickhart said, alluding to the battle against St. Tim's. “She does a good job of protecting the ball and putting it in the back of the net. And she knows when to drive and when to pull it out. She has a high lacrosse IQ.”

Bickhart added that Skylar “has also done a good job” of providing leadership for her teammates this spring.

Congratulations, Skylar!
