Lani edged Bryn Mawr freshman Tatyana Smith by a single stroke to capture the individual title at the golf championship tournament last week at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Timonium.

Lani, who was a runner-up at last year’s event and trailed by three strokes coming into the second day of competition, said that she told herself to forget about the shots she missed in the opening round.

“Today’s a new day and I could start over,” she said. “I just tried to do my best, one hole at a time.”

On the par-five sixth hole, Lani said that she reached the green on her second shot and just missed an eagle when the ball stopped inches short of the cup. A tap-in gave her a much-needed birdie.
